English (Spelling)
The English Curriculum is delivered using the National Curriculum 2014 and Early learning Goals are followed to ensure continuity and progression from the Foundation Stage through to Upper Key Stage Two. Children are encouraged to write and read beyond the literacy session and teachers provide as many opportunities as possible for this through themed topic work.
Spelling
Within EYFS, Spelling is taught through Twinkl Phonics. Children are given five spellings, starting after Christmas. These are tested on a Friday and the results are sent home on Tapestry. These spellings are a range of high frequency words and phase appropriate words related to their phonics group.
Within Key Stage One, spelling is taught through phonics and specific spelling sessions . In Key Stage One and Key Stage Two, children are given a set of 10 spellings which are tested on a Friday. The children's test results will be sent home via Seesaw. We expect that children are given the opportunity to learn their spellings at home but they will be given daily opportunities to practise their spellings and a weekly input to learn the spelling rule. We use the Twinkl spelling scheme throughout Key Stage One and Key Stage Two.
**All children have a Spelling Shed login- please check with your child's class teacher if you do not have this information.**

Reception Spellings
Children in Reception will be given spellings in order. They will focus on these spellings until they have achieved them. When they are ready they will move on to the next set. They will be tested on a Friday and when they are ready to move on to learn new spellings, these new spellings will be sent home on Tapestry.
